Gov-elect Mikie Sherrill has selected Jen Davenport to be her state attorney general when she takes office in January.
Davenport is currently an attorney with PSE&G but has a lengthy background in criminal law enforcement.
Davenport was first assistant attorney general from 2018 to 2020 under Gurbir Grewal.
She also spent time as an assistant U.S. attorney and began her career with the DEA.
Sherrill has given her a mandate to protect the people of New Jersey whether that’s from decisions made in Washington, to price gauging or discriminatory rent practices.
“She’s not afraid to stand up to anybody, Including the president. And we will take the administration to court if needed. To make sure that New Jersey’s getting our tax dollars back to invest in our schools, food assistance programs, health Care, and the Gateway Tunnel just to name a few,” said Sherrill.
Davenport expressed some of her own concerns.
“As attorney general, I will focus relentlessly on public safety including protecting our communities from gun violence. Combatting human trafficking and ensuring the safety of our children,” said Davenport.
If confirmed by the New Jersey state Senate, Davenport would become New Jersey’s fifth female state Attorney General.
