The next payday will be extra rewarding for thousands of airport workers. 

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the start of a new minimum wage policy that's giving contracted and sub-contracted employees at John F. Kennedy and La Guardia airports a boost in pay from $9 per hour or less to $10 an hour. 

Workers can then expect a raise to $10.10 per hour on Feb. 1 if they're making less at that time. The wage level will also increase every year starting in 2016 to match rising costs of living and headline inflation. 

Cuomo said that nearly 50 million visitors to New York depend on the people at those airports, and their wages should be reflective of that responsibility. 

The Port Authority anticipates that the minimum wage actions will reduce employee turnover and improve job performance.
