To keep essential workers safe battling the COVID-19 outbreak, Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling on the MTA to come up with a way to disinfect every train, every night.
The effort comes after he held up the cover of the Daily News on Tuesday that showed homeless people and their possessions on a subway car.
The governor also called on Washington to put politics aide and fund state and local governments. He says the federal government should be using money to help first responders, not large corporations.
“What about helping the police? What about helping the firefighters? How about helping all the people out there killing themselves to make life easier for us?" asked the governor.

He also ripped Sen. Rick Scott, of Florida, for his comments earlier this week. Scott said: “It’s not fair to the taxpayers of Florida. We sit here, we live within our means, and then New York, Illinois, California and other states don’t. And we’re supposed to go bail them out? That’s not right.”
Gov. Cuomo said that New York, one of the highest tax paying states, bails out Florida and many other states who take more money out of the system than they put in.
The governor announced the death of 330 more New Yorkers due to the pandemic. Overall, he says the numbers are trending in the right direction.
Briefing Notes:
  • Gov. Cuomo: 330 New Yorkers died yesterday due to COVID-19.
  • Gov Cuomo says we should heed the warning signs from around the world, citing a "second wave" occurring in Singapore and rising infection rate in Germany.
  • Gov. Cuomo's keys to reopening: At least 30% of hospital beds must be available after elective surgeries resume; 30% of ICU beds must also be available; and hospitalizations and diagnostic testing - there cannot be a statistically significant increase in COVID cases.
  • Gov. Cuomo says there are about 30,000 COVID-19 tests per day in New York. He set a goal of hitting 40,000 per day last week.
  • Gov. Cuomo: Today we are beginning our antibody testing of transit workers to further determine the spread among our front-line workers. An initial 1,000 will be tested this week.
  • Gov. Cuomo to the MTA: "How do we disinfect every train every night?" He's asking for a plan by tomorrow.
  • Gov. Cuomo again assails Mitch McConnell over his "blue state bailout" comments. He calls it "political rhetoric" and "personal vitriol." He also calls Sen. Rick Scott, of Florida's comments "ugly." He said on Monday: “It’s not fair to the taxpayers of Florida. We sit here, we live within our means, and then New York, Illinois, California and other states don’t. And we’re supposed to go bail them out? That’s not right.”
