Rep. Josh Gottheimer announced new action to protect AM radio in electric cars.

The plan is in response to the latest push by manufacturers to cut access to the radio frequency in new vehicles.

Gottheimer argues that AM radio is important for public safety during emergencies.

"Today's new action will help ensure that every time one of these dealerships sells an electric vehicle, customers will know that they're buying a car without AM radio and that the car is unsafe in certain emergencies,” Gottheimer stated during an event in front of a local Tesla dealership. “AM radio is literally the backbone behind America's national public warning system."

Gottheimer says he sent a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, urging them to require a warning sticker on these cars. He says he is also currently leading a bill in Congress called the AM Radio For Every Vehicle Act.
