A police department from Georgia visited New Jersey for a second year to recruit new police officers.
The Alpharetta Police Department was at Hasbrouck Heights High School on Wednesday recruiting 22- to 35-year-olds who may be interested in becoming police officers.
“We’re testing out of New Jersey but were shouting out to New York, [Pennsylvania], Connecticut, wherever you are in this tri-state area,” says Capt. Jakai Braithwaite.
Potential applicants must complete an obstacle course in less than two minutes. Once completed, the department will contact candidates to further the process.
One candidate is Alonzo Harran, who says he is looking to move to Georgia from New Jersey.
“Start something new,” he says.
Braithwaite is a New Jersey native. He presented the idea to recruit from the Garden State last year. The department was able to recruit nine new police officers, including Shenique Rosarao, who transferred from the NYPD.
“The NYPD schedule is very hectic, the schedule in Alpharetta is very accommodating to what your needs may be. Twelve-hour shifts are a big change for me I came from working eight-and-a-half-hour shifts with NYPD,” she says.
Recruitment will continue on Thursday morning. Those who wish to show up must have two things – a driver’s license and workout gear.
The department is also looking to recruit 911 communications officers.
