Gas prices around New Jersey dropped by 13 cents over the last seven days. The statewide average is now $4.38 cents a gallon but there are plenty of stations around the Garden State that are charging less.
In Morris County, the lowest priced gas we found was the $4.17 cents a gallon at the Costco in East Hanover. Elsewhere, along nearby Route 10, prices for regular gas were between $4.29 and $4.35.
The gas prices have been rising due to the war with Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has pushed the national average for gas to 4.32 cents per gallon.
News 12 heard from some drivers who are leaving their fuel guzzling trucks at home while some don’t mind the higher cost. Billy Williams is a school teacher who has decided to leave his pickup truck at home. He's using his motorcycle to commute to work.
“The gas prices are ridiculous. The F-150 I think it take like 120 to fill. The truck will sit. My kids, when I pull into school will be going crazy because, they'll say, 'Oh where's you're truck.' Nah, it's nice out, so I'm saving money," said Billy Williams.
However, some are more willing to pay higher prices at the pump. avi Biton pays $80 to fill the tank on his Honda Odyssey.
“Listen it’s expensive, but I understand why because of the war, but somebody has got to pay for it right," said Havi Biton, of Springfield.
As for the average price of gas nationwide, AAA says that has dropped by 18 cents over the last week.
