Garwood teen charged with murder in fatal Cranford hit-and-run

Cranford police say two teenage girls riding an electric bike were struck by a vehicle. Both were taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

A 17-year-old boy from Garwood has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in a fatal hit-and-run that happened in Cranford.
The crash happened around 5:26 p.m. on Sept. 29 on Burnside Avenue.
Cranford police say two teenage girls riding an electric bike were struck by a vehicle. Both were taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The suspected teen driver was taken into custody by members of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and Cranford Police Department.
“We would like to thank the members of the public for their assistance with this investigation as well as members of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and Cranford Police Department for their diligent work during this investigation,” said Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel.

Cranford Family Care is collecting money for the family. "We've spoken to the families and 100% of the money that they are collecting is going exclusively to them for the funerals of the girls," said Christine Larrabee of Cranford Family Care.
