The first ever Garden State Culinary Arts Awards are being held tonight, honoring some of the state's best eateries and master cooks.
The awards are modeled after the prestigious national James Beard Foundation Awards. Categories include rising star chef, outstanding pastry chef and best restaurant.
The nominees for best new restaurant include Barrio Costero in Asbury Park, Graze in Little Silver and Common Lot in Millburn. News 12 recently got a chance to check out their signature dishes.
Nominations were accepted from the public for the 13 categories, then narrowed down. A panel of about 100 journalists, food writers, cookbook authors and other culinary experts will vote on the winners.
