Funeral set for March 18 for anti-violence advocate killed in police standoff

Funeral services have been set for March 18 for an anti-violence advocate shot and killed during a police standoff in Paterson.
Najee Seabrooks will be laid to rest at Christian Fellowship Center in Paterson. Visitation will take place 9-11 a.m. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m.
Seabrooks worked for the Paterson Healing Collective – a group working to reduce gun violence. He died after a five-hour standoff with police. Colleagues say that Seabrooks was experiencing a mental health crisis when he was shot.
The shooting has sparked criticism of how the Paterson Police Department handled the situation. Members of the Paterson Healing Collective say that they are trained for situations like this and requested to be able to speak to Seabrooks but were denied access.
Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh said that he wants the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General to release police body camera video of the incident so that the details about the shooting can come to light.
Seabrooks was 31 years old.
