A special beach event is going on today for children facing special challenges

The “Waves of impact” event is hosted by a surf camp that helps bring smiles to the faces of children who are faced with challenges every day.

Each summer the organization, made up of mostly volunteers, take the kids out into the ocean. The program is held all over the country from California to Texas and right here at the Jersey shore. 

Dozens of kids are signed up for today.

The event started at 10 a.m. and will run through the afternoon on Philadelphia Avenue in Lavallette.
