A former Middle Township elementary school teacher has pleaded guilty to a charge involving the abuse of a student and is expected to serve five years in prison.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Laura Caron entered the guilty plea last week.

Authorities say Caron was a fifth grade teacher in Middle Township and the victim was 11 when the abuse began.

Investigators say the student had been living in Caron's home.

Authorities say the victim's father alerted school officials in December 2024, prompting an investigation.

Caron is scheduled to be sentenced in January.

She will also be required to register as a sex offender.
