Somerset County prosecutors say former teacher and coach Matthew Rennie, 29, of Ringoes, was sentenced to four years in state prison for sexually assaulting a student.
Rennie was arrested October 2021, according to prosecutors, after a 17-year-old girl reported to Franklin Township police that she was sexually assaulted by the teacher/coach who is employed at a private educational institution in Franklin Township.
Prosecutors say the teen disclosed incidents that occurred in Montgomery Township and East Amwell Township from July 2021 to September 2021.
Police say Ranait Griff, 30, of South Orange, who was also a teacher and coach at the Franklin school, was aware of the assault. Griff was arrested.
Rennie was indicted for sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Griff was indicted for failure to report child sexual abuse.
Rennie entered a guilty plea to the charges in May 2022. He was sentenced to four years in state prison.
