North Brunswick High School students took some time out from classes to get a unique perspective on drinking and driving.
The students took part in the D.R.I.V.E. program, which stands for Driver Response Impaired Vision Exercise. The program was created to give students firsthand experience of what it is like to get behind the wheel while impaired.
The students wear goggles that replicate the experience of having a blood alcohol level between .17 and .20, approximately twice the legal limit. The students had to drive through an obstacle course with the goggles on. They also had to take drunk driving tests, such as walking along a straight line.
?I think life?s best lessons are learned through experience and I think that this is the safest way to experience that,? North Brunswick Police Officer Craig Patton said.
This is the third year the program has taken place in North Brunswick.
