The Food Bank of New York is hosting its first-ever food pantry at a public high school this weekend in the Bronx.

The Walton Educational Campus, which is made up of five schools and almost 3,000 students, opened its doors to parents and students in need of food on Saturday morning.

The pantry is also open to the parents and children of neighboring schools P.S. 86 and P.S. 340. Since September, a reported 743 families who are in shelters and temporary housing have benefited from food bank programs.

Officials at the International School for Liberal Arts, which hosted the pantry, say the goal is also to get students involved. They say it can help open their eyes to the needs of their community.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 200 volunteers will sort, organize and repack food products on Monday for families in need across the city.
