The Philadelphia Flyers debuted their new mascot Monday, and reactions are mixed.
“Gritty” seems to look like the lovechild of Animal from “The Muppets” and McDonald’s character “Grimace.”
People had strong reactions to the new mascot on social media.
TJ Schirmer wrote, “If this thing tries to touch me, I’m launching a beer at its head.”
Geoff wrote, “I’m being sincere, this just doesn’t work. Gritty has bodies hidden under floorboards.”
Geoff may not be wrong. When the Pittsburgh Penguins wrote a tweet laughing at Gritty, the mascot responded “Sleep with one eye open tonight, bird.”
Gritty’s first day at a Flyers game did not go off without a hitch. While firing T-shirts into the stands from a T-shirt cannon, Gritty lost his footing and slipped on the ice.
According to the Flyer’s official website, Gritty made his presence known after “recent construction at the Wells Fargo Center disturbed his secret hideout.”
