First responders were out in North Plainfield this morning where flooding led to several rescues.

Town firefighters pulled at least a dozen people from stranded cars stuck on Route 22 eastbound and westbound.

Side streets were also affected with water a foot deep in some areas.

Capt. James DiPaolo of the North Plainfield Fire Department says a swift water rescue team walked up to drivers' cars and got the people out. He says most were just disappointed their cars were towed.

It is unknown what kind or if any damage was sustained to the cars stuck.

Officials say the surge of water actually allowed the road to drain. They say the water was able to drain into a nearby creek.

Route 22 has since been cleared.

This kind of flooding has happened multiple times this year, according to Capt. DiPaolo.

There is a flash flood warning in effect for Somerset and Middlesex counties.
