First-class mail may take longer to get to its destination next year. Six mail centers in New Jersey are slated to close, which means that letters may have to travel further between post offices and processing centers. The closures, which may take place by March, are part of an effort to save an estimated $3 billion. The facilities that would be impacted in New Jersey are located in Edison, Pleasantville, Eatontown, Kearny, Teterboro and Bellmawr.

The cost of a first-class stamp will go up a penny to 45 cents on Jan. 22.
