Englewood firefighters are hoping President Barack Obama can provide financial relief to eliminate unsafe working conditions at their firehouse.
For 85 years, firefighters and other city workers have worked out of the 11 William St. firehouse despite its growing problems and age.
Firefighters complain of mold, asbestos and mice infestation in the building. They expect more bathrooms to be installed to accommodate the more than 40 workers.
Chief Robert Moran says the firehouse applied for funding from Obama?s stimulus package, which would provide money for a new building. They do not expect to hear a response until the fall.
