Firefighters braved the bitter cold to fight a large fire in Hudson County on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire started just after 2:30 p.m. inside a house near 68th Street in Guttenberg. Flames and smoke were seen coming from the windows on the upper floors of the building.

Firefighters were forced to battle the fire in temperatures that were below freezing. The fire chief tells News 12 New Jersey that windy weather made it difficult to fight the fire.

The fire was extinguished around 4:30 p.m. The chief says that all of the residents were able to get out safely. He says the Guttenberg Office of Emergency Management will help to find shelter for the people displaced.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
