Residents in a Hoboken apartment building were woken up early Thursday by the sound of fire alarms and the smell of smoke.
The fire quickly escalated to a four-alarm blaze at the building on 11th and Washington streets. Some residents were forced to use the fire escapes to evacuate the building. Firefighters had to rescue others.
Firefighters spent most of the morning getting the fire under control. At least three firefighters and two residents were injured in the blaze. There is no word on the cause of the fire.
