A Paterson firefighter is making New Jersey proud after he rescued a dog that was stuck at the bottom of the Paterson Great Falls over the weekend.
Capt. Scott Parkin is a lifelong member of the Paterson Fire Department. He rappelled 75 feet down from the footbridge near the falls to rescue the dog, now named Paterson.
Parkin says that his father, Joseph Parkin, is a former Paterson firefighter who made a similar rescue at the Great Falls 43 years earlier in 1975. Joseph Parkin also rescued a dog.
Scott Parkin says that he couldn’t wait to get back to the station Sunday to call his dad and tell him about the rescue. Joseph Parkin is now 94 years old and is a World War II veteran.
