Fire officials say the family was having breakfast when a smoke alarm alerted them to the fire upstairs.
Firefighters found the flames in a stairway leading to the attic. The house sustained serious damage to the roof and attic.
The cause of the flames is under investigation.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury while responding.
