Firefighters battled smoke and flames as a fire tore through a home on Cedarbrook Avenue in South Plainfield Wednesday morning.
Smoke could still be seen pouring from the windows of the home just after 6 a.n. The fire appears to have started around 5 a.m., quickly engulfing the residence.
Crews from South Plainfield as well as multiple nearby towns responded to help bring the fire under control. The home is located about two blocks away from the John C. Riley Elementary School in a mostly residential neighborhood.
Cedarbrook Ave. is closed between Maple Ave and Walter St. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and expect delays, particularly with school traffic in the area.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire or if there were any injuries.
