A fast-moving fire ravaged two homes in Newark Saturday, leaving nearly a dozen people homeless.
Firefighters say the flames broke out close to 10 a.m. on the third floor of 42 Hawkins St. and quickly spread to the home next door. One man, Nelson Coelho, was taking a shower when firefighters broke down the door and pulled him out to safety.
Anthony Yocus was visiting his family across the street when he noticed the fire. He pounded on the door of a first-floor apartment and rescued a woman and her child.
Arson investigators searched the scene to determine the cause of the fire. The Red Cross was on hand to provide the victims with food, clothing and temporary shelter.
