A two-family home in Totowa was destroyed in a fire on Sunday afternoon.
One pet dog was killed in the blaze. Another, a yellow lab, was rescued from the second floor by a Totowa firefighter.
Fire Chief Vincent Marciano said the firefighter used an oxygen mask to help the dog survive. The mask was recently donated to the fire department by Girl Scouts.
The fire at 49 Frances St. started at 3 p.m. while no one was home. Investigators say it started in the rear of the house where there was a stairwell. A cause for the fire has not yet been determined by fire officials.
In total, eight people were displaced.
