A fire Sunday night destroyed a nearly 90-year-old business in Manasquan, Monmouth County, officials said.
Flames were first reported around 7 p.m. Sunday at Mueller's Flowers and Gifts on Route 71. The business has been in operation since the 1930s and considered a staple in the shore community, residents said.
“Inside the shop, they had all kinds of knick-knacks for the house, décor. They lost a lot of really beautiful items,” Manasquan resident Randy Ford said.
Officials said two people who saw the flames waved down fire patrol.
Crews from several neighboring towns were in to help. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday.
