A fire Thursday afternoon destroyed a home on Messler Street in East Brunswick.
The first started just before 4:00 p.m. East Brunswick police say that no one was inside the home when the fire broke out, and they believe the home may in fact be vacant.
The fire severely damaged the roof and left side of the home. The house next door also suffered some minor damage.
Neighbors say they are relieved no one was hurt.
"I saw the black smoke and...it was just devastating," says Sharon Jones. "It immediately brought back memories of me when our house burned down and we lost completely everything."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
