A fire ripped through the Sanctification Assembly of God Church in Orange on Wednesday night.
The fire started at around 8:30 p.m. at the church located on the 400-block of Hillside Avenue.
Bright orange flames could be seen raging from the building. Fire departments from nearby towns were called in to assist.
The fire was mostly contained to the steeple of the church, which had been under construction. Officials feared the steeple would collapse, so a nearby home was evacuated as a precaution.
Engineers must now assess how badly damaged the steeple is and if it needs to be knocked down.
There were no reports of any injuries.
According to a placard on the church, it was built in 1891.
