Fire at Vernon Township substation knocks out power for thousands

Several departments from across the region responded and were able to put out the fire after several hours.

Power is back on for thousands of people in Sussex County after a fire at an electrical substation knocked it out Tuesday night.
The substation in Vernon Township was fully engulfed in flames. Mayor Anthony Rossi said 17,000 gallons of mineral oil used to cool the facility caught fire.
Several departments from across the region responded and were able to put out the fire after several hours.
