Some female drivers are on alert in Monmouth County after a male driver attacked a woman with pepper spray.
The woman was traveling on Stone Hill Road in Colts Neck shortly before midnight Tuesday when the driver behind her flashed his high beams several times. The woman pulled over and the man got out of his vehicle. He asked for directions and then sprayed a substance in her face, according to police.
Police say the woman was able to drive off, and she wasn't followed. This attack is similar to five pepper spray attacks in Colts Neck and Freehold between May and September of 2014. That man remains on the loose.
Most of the victims' purses were stolen and at least one woman was punched in the face.
The suspect in last year's attacks is described as a heavyset, bald, black man between 30 and 40 years old. The recent victim says her attacker fits the same description, but her attacker had short hair. The suspect's vehicle in the recent attack is described as a silver or sand-colored, four-door sedan.
Police are investigating whether the same person is responsible for all of the attacks. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Colts Neck police.
