A dump truck involved in a serious crash on Interstate 280 was previously cited for 12 safety violations, according to federal records.
Those violations came from two separate inspections. But it was unclear if the violations should have been enough to keep the truck off the road.
Five firefighters and three state troopers were hurt in the crash. They were in the location investigating an earlier crash when the dump truck struck them Tuesday morning.
One of the firefighters remains hospitalized.
The dump truck driver was identified as Edgar Penafiel. There are no charges against him at this time, according to authorities.
