The Biden-Harris administration has announced funding for a proposed Amtrak line connecting New Jersey to Scranton and Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania.
The new line would stretch from New York Penn Station to Scranton, making three daily round trips with stops in several Jersey cities, including Newark, Montclair, Morristown and Dover. The line will primarily utilize existing tracks.
This project is part of a larger effort to support America's passenger rails with over $1 billion in additional funding. However, the schedule and estimated cost of the project have not been determined.
The proposed line aims to restore passenger rail service to the Southern Tier, which hasn't had direct access to New York City since the 1970s.
