FDU Poll: A third of New Jerseyans can’t name the governor
One-third of adult New Jersey residents cannot name the state’s current governor, according to a poll conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The survey by the school found that only 67% of adults surveyed knew that New Jersey’s governor is named Gov. Phil Murphy.
Some New Jerseyans could only remember the name “Phil” or “Murphy”, while others referred to the governor as “William Murphy” or “Bill Murphy.”
And apparently 21 out of the 802 people surveyed said that they knew the name of the governor and then named former Gov. Chris Christie.
The survey found that 43% of those who correctly identified the governor approved of his job performance so far, while 36% disapproved.
“It’s important to note that Gov. Murphy remains under a 50% approval rate mainly because people don’t know him very well at all,” Krista Jenkins, professor of government and director of the FDU Poll in a statement. “On the bright side, this means he has a lot of potential to improve his ratings. On the pessimistic side, it means he’s just not connecting with voters.”
A recent national survey found that a third of all American’s are not able to name their state’s governor.
