Members of the FDNY and NYPD squared off on the baseball field on Saturday to remember the heroes who were lost on September 11, 2001. 

The firefighters and police took part in the "Never Forget Heroes Baseball Classic" at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

The game is played each year in memory of those who lost their lives. Sunday will mark 21 years since the fateful day.

"Looking back on the men and women who sacrificed themselves and tie us all together, it’s like you're carrying the ball forward,” said Clarkstown police officer Tommy Hanigan. “You remember them every day that you go forward with your job."

"It feels like it was yesterday,” added Theresa Wynne, Suffern. “I have girlfriends who lost their spouses and were pregnant with their children. I spoke to a friend a few weeks before and now he's gone and tomorrow will be a very solemn day."
