A father and daughter from New Milford are in critical condition after being struck by lightning while boating on Lake Hopatcong.
Robert Tarantino and his 8-year-old daughter were out on a family boat when they were hit Saturday night. Witnesses say after the strike, Tarantino?s boat stopped and could not be restarted. Another boat pulled up, loaded everyone on board and headed quickly towards the dock.
Novneet Sahu, an EMT, was one of the first responders on the scene. He says the father's skin turned pale and he had burns on his head and his back. Sahu says the injuries may be where the bolt entered and exited the man?s body.
Robert Tarantino is being treated in the intensive care unit of St. Barnabas Medical Center?s burn unit. His daughter was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital.
