A Bronx family is calling for an investigation after a pregnant woman died in the delivery room.
According to loved ones, 30-year-old Victoria Rexach, a Bronx native, passed away while giving birth to premature twins at Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island back on Aug. 28.
Her family claims doctors knew she was a high-risk patient who could not deliver her babies naturally, but proceeded with natural childbirth anyway. They say Rexach suffered from preeclampsia and had two previous C-sections.
Richmond University Medical Center issued a statement saying, "The hospital and our staff who provided care to the patient worked diligently and heroically to save the life of this young woman, who had a very complex obstetrical history."
Rexach leaves behind her husband and two children, ages 4 and 10. Her premature twin girls did not survive.
