A Clifton man has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he stabbed a 62-year-old resident, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries.

Anthony C. Schwiederek was arrested June 26 following an investigation by the Clifton Police Department into the stabbing, which occurred the same day at a home in Clifton, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing and found the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries to the neck and head. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. Investigators identified Schwiederek as the suspect, authorities said. The victim's identity has not been released under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.

Schwiederek remains in custody, and prosecutors have filed a motion seeking pretrial detention. A Superior Court judge will decide whether he will remain detained pending trial.

Schwiederek is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
