A Thanksgiving meal was served in Elizabeth in memory of a woman who lost her life to the flooding from Hurricane Ida. News 12 spoke with the victim's family and volunteers who organized the event.
Shakia Garret, of Elizabeth, may have perished during the impact of Hurricane Ida, but her loved ones want her spirit to shine this first Thanksgiving since her death.
Joining with volunteer groups, the family and the National United Youth Council Inc. provided a free dinner in Elizabeth to anyone in need or who simply wanted to be with others this holiday and enjoy homemade dishes.
