The family of a fallen United States soldier was able to view a Christmas light display in New Jersey Wednesday as part of their trip up north.
Sgt. William Joseph Kundrat was killed in a plane crash in Mississippi this summer. The FDNY brought the North Carolina family to New York to experience Christmas in Manhattan.
They were also brought up to see the display in Cranbury, one of the state’s largest.
Sgt. Kundrat had always promised his family that he would take them to New York City for Christmas, but he was killed before that could happen.
Kundrat’s wife Ashley initially canceled the trip, but eventually reconsidered.
“I decided he really wanted us to do this. And so I was going to keep his dream alive and brought the children to New York and we’ve had an amazing time,” she says.
The Cranbury display features over 150,000 lights. The display’s organizers have raised more than $65,000 for charity as part of the display.
