A family of five was displaced by a house fire Saturday in Garwood, according to authorities.

The flames inflicted extensive damage to the side of the Center Street residence.

Officials say all occupants were able to escape safely.

One neighbor told News 12 she heard an explosion and saw lots of black smoke.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
