A family who was laying their loved one to rest got a horrific shock when a human foot from an adjacent grave was uncovered during the burial.
The family of 85-year-old Cleveland Butler, who died of a stroke, is now considering a lawsuit.
Butler’s family members tell News 12 New Jersey Butler was being buried at Mount Holiness Memorial Park when his casket caught on the foot of an adjacent body, whose wooden casket had since deteriorated.
They tell News 12 that the family members watching it happen were appalled, especially because the cemetery workers did not react and continued to cover the foot with dirt.
While police say no laws were broken, the Butler family tells News 12 they are seriously considering a lawsuit.
Cleveland’s son Alonzo says he wonders whether other peoples’ family members are no longer inside a casket either.
The Robeson and Brown Funeral Home responded to the incident saying it is not affiliated with Mount Holiness Cemetery and that the incident is a cemetery matter.
Meanwhile, the cemetery’s management says the neighboring blot dates back to 1969.
