The family of a Lawrence High School student who said a substitute teacher inappropriately touched her has filed a $5 million notice of claim against the school district.

Constantine Theodosiou, 58, a former substitute, is accused of grabbing the student inside the school last month. A notice of claim is the first step in bringing a lawsuit against the district.

The student's family alleges the district tried to cover up the incident and did not take action when the situation was first reported. The family's attorney, Vess Mitev, said it was not an isolated incident.

In a statement, the Lawrence School District said Theodosiou was removed from his position and has been banned from the district since his arrest. Additionally, the district said it had not yet been served with the notice.

"At this time, the District has not been notified by its legal counsel that it has been formally served," the statement read. "As such, we are unable to provide any comment. Additionally, in accordance with District policy, we do not comment on ongoing litigation."

Theodosiou pleaded not guilty at his arraignment last month to charges of endangering the welfare of a child, forcible touching and sexual abuse.
