Families reunited with their loved ones for the first time since the pandemic on Father’s Day at a veterans home in Paramus.
It's been months since Rosemary Finizio has seen her mother and father. Her father, a World War II Navy veteran, and her mother both live at the New Jersey Veterans Home in Paramus.
On Father's Day, as part of the state's reopening process, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and a variety of other long-term care facilities allowed short, outdoor visits with residents' loved ones.
According to NJ Department of Health as of June 19 there were 197 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and 81 confirmed Covid-19 deaths at the New Jersey Veterans Home.
The state put out a long list of guidelines to keep residents safe during the visits. Only two visitors are permitted at a time and they must remain at least 6 feet away from the resident, wear face coverings, and have their temperatures checked before the visit.
The New Jersey Veterans Home in Paramus hosted a total of 30, 10-minute outdoor visits on Sunday.
