Fair Lawn police: Reckless driver arrested for fleeing scene of fiery car crash

Police say the woman told them there was a child in the back seat of the car. However, police say the child was never in the vehicle.

A woman who was reported driving out of control managed to escape a fiery car crash over the weekend in Fair Lawn that left a vehicle engulfed in flames, according to police.
Authorities say they received multiple calls that a driver was driving recklessly up and down Saddle River Road. They say it was also reported that the vehicle drove off the roadway from the road into a park area behind a home.
Police say the woman told them there was a child in the back seat of the car. However, police say there was no child. They say the child was never in the vehicle and was safe at a different location.
Authorities say the woman fled the scene into a home nearby and was detained. She was taken to New Bridge Medical Center for evaluation.
According to police, two officers suffered minor injuries.
Police say charges are pending upon the outcome of the investigation.
