A plumbing expert is offering tips on how to stay cool and comfortable in the heat while not breaking the bank.
Christopher Petri, the operations manager at Petri Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Drain Cleaning, says to consider alternatives to window air conditioners since they are insufficient and energy draining.
For residents who don't have that option, they can keep the AC on 69 to 72 degrees. He says it's a comfortable living temperature, and not a big drain of utilities.
It’s important to note that this heat can take a toll on New York City’s power grid. The city’s Emergency Management Department recommends keeping ACs at around 78 degrees.
Other tips include closing the curtains during the day and limiting air to only rooms that need it.
He says window fans can also be cooling if used properly.
