Ramsey Avenue in Hillside remains blocked off due to a sinkhole taking up a significant portion of the road. The sinkhole is located just below the I-78 overpass which relies on it for support.
Hillside councilwoman Andrea Hyatt told News 12 New Jersey the state is willing to take over the sinkhole project on Ramsey Avenue, but not until March. This has her and other officials concerned about the structural integrity of the bridge and area businesses.
State Sen. Joe Cryan said the I-78 overpass is currently sturdy and safe, according to engineers. He says a bid for the job will go out by the end of the year and will hopefully begin in January or February. Cryan said once the work begins it should take and about 3 to 6 months to complete.
