Former USA soccer star Tasha Kai put her career on hold for five years to be with her father who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Now, she's making a comeback.
Benny Kai was 54 years old when he passed away. Kai was with him in her native Hawaii until his death.
"My job is to spend time with the family. Soccer can wait," Kai told News 12 New Jersey.
She is a former member of Team USA, winning a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics.
Kai's last professional soccer season was in 2009 when she won a title with Sky Blue. She says New Jersey's where she wants to be. In part because she's reunited with her friend Christie Rampone.
"Being an older player, she brings that energy and spark and I love having her around," says Rampone.
Kai scored in her first game of the season, getting right back into the groove she left.
"No matter how long you take off, soccer's always here and if you have the passion, might as well go for it," she says.
