A police officer in Ewing rescued a dog last week from a burning building.

A police officer in Ewing rescued a dog last week from a burning building.            
Officers responded to a fire from a residence at 109 Browning Ave. on June 2 and encountered heavy smoke. They were able to confirm all residents had evacuated, but the homeowner said there was a dog still inside.
Detective Julia Caldwell jumped into action and entered the building, rescuing the dog. During the rescue, she suffered smoke inhalation and was treated on the scene.
The fire was later extinguished and deemed non-suspicious.
There were no other injuries to report.
