Today is National Doughnut Day, and many establishments are offering free doughnuts in honor of the day.
Along with national chains such as Dunkin’ Donuts, Krispy Kreme and Tim Hortons, here are some local doughnut shops giving away free doughnuts today:
Broad Street Dough Company in Oakhurst.
Montclair Bread Company in Montclair.
Purple Glaze Donuts in Asbury Park.
Duck Donuts, with two locations in Middletown and in Green Brook Township.
Go Nutz 4 Donuts in Bayville.
Glaze Donuts, with two locations in New Milford and West Caldwell.
OB-Co's Donuts in Toms River.
Top That! Donuts in Point Pleasant Beach.
National Doughnut Day has been around since 1938.
The day was established by the Chicago Salvation Army to bring in funds during the Great Depression, as well to honor Salvation Army volunteers during World War I.
