Hundreds of people gathered in Englewood on Saturday to protest against police brutality and call for more transparency.
The rally started at Mahkay Park and developed into a march past the Englewood police station and through the city.
People marched through the streets chanting "I can't breathe" and "Black lives matter."
Some local police officers even joined in and marched side by side with protesters.
The rally was organized by the North Jersey Black Caucus for Social Justice. They say one of their main goals is to reform police throughout the country and locally.
Scott T. Jenkins is a former police officer and also one of the leaders of organization.
"There's a true need for complete reform in the criminal justice system," Jenkins says. "These people are fed up with it…We are going to make sure that this time the momentum doesn't stop.”
He says that civilian review boards should be enacted in New Jersey for transparency, to adopt policy and help with community relations.
Other marchers like Terrance say young people are ready to lead to the movement.
"We are more driven, and we are more diverse and I'm not discrediting the older generation. They taught us so much and now it’s time pass on the torch to us. We're going to change this world."
